Network Administrator

The Network Administrator is responsible for ensuring network security and maintaining the uptime and reliability of the organization’s network.  In this role, you will be working in collaboration with the network and development teams, following procedural guidelines, and implementing a structured and disciplined approach to network administration.  By prioritizing security, uptime, and optimal performance, you will help support the organization's goals and objectives through effective collaboration.  The Network Administrator reports directly to the ICT department manager.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

- Monitor network security, connectivity, and performance (availability, utilization, latency, etc.) and test for weaknesses.
- Fully support (troubleshoot), configure, maintain, and upgrade the organization’s networks and on-premise servers.
- Analyze system performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
- Implement and enforce network security policies and procedures.
- Control and monitor user access to the network.
- Test the network systems consistently to identify and remove areas that could affect performance or security.
- Define guidelines for evaluating the IT infrastructure and determining where changes should be made.
- Develop and maintain network documentation, including network diagrams and documented procedures.
- Facilitate proactive strategies, such as justifying the cost of hardware or infrastructure upgrades required to eliminate chronic network bottlenecks.
- Research and make recommendations on server system administration and recommend purchases of hardware and software needed the improve the IT infrastructure.
- Keep up-to-date with emerging network technologies and best practices.
- Resolve problems reported by end users.
- Collaborate with other ICT team members and internal stakeholders on network-related projects and issues to determine technology needs and recommend solutions to support the organization’s business goals.

 

Technical Skills:

- Proficiency in network security protocols
- Hands-on experience in a network administration role including the use of tools and software
- Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP and other LAN and WAN protocols
- Extensive knowledge of DNS and DHCP and other network services
- Knowledge of network hardware and software
- Knowledge of best practices around management, control, and monitoring of server infrastructure
- Experience with virtualization technologies (VMWare, Hyper-V)
- Ability to configure and troubleshoot network equipment (routers, switches, firewalls)
- Experience with the implementing, troubleshooting, and managing of firewalls and VPNs
- Experience with setting up and configuring server hardware
- Familiar with backup and recovery software and methodologies
- Experience with monitoring, configuration management, and design of Microsoft systems and services
- Understanding of VoIP technology and communication applications (Microsoft Teams)

Education & Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or similar.
- Minimum 3 years experience as a Network/System Administrator.
- Microsoft System Administration and Engineer certificates (MCSA, MCSE) preferred.
